* Note: U.S. Shipments + Imports – Exports
The report reveals that imports comprised 71.5% of U.S. tile consumption by volume in 2024, up from 70.2% in 2023. India maintained its position as the largest volume exporter to the United States for the second consecutive year, capturing 20.4% of U.S. imports, followed by Spain (17.6%) and Italy (16.0%).
While domestic manufacturers shipped 769.9 million square feet of ceramic tile within the U.S. market, this represented a significant 9.1% decrease from 2023 and marked the lowest annual production total since 2013. Despite this decline, U.S. production still accounted for 28.5% of total consumption, substantially higher than any individual importing country.
By value, Italy remains the premium import leader, comprising 29.2% of 2024 U.S. imports on a dollar basis (CIF + duty), with Italian tile commanding the highest average value at $2.29 per square foot.
