Almost every Sunday morning, our living room looks like a battlefield of game controllers.
They’re balanced on the coffee table’s edge, wedged between couch cushions, and left on the floor—basically anywhere except where they belong. Every time I clean up, they magically reappear as if playing their own game of hide and seek across the room.
That was our reality until I decided to transform our chaotic gaming setup into something much more functional and stylish with a DIY game controller holder.
Unlike bulky wooden stands or cheap plastic holders, this acrylic game controller stand is the perfect blend of functionality and minimalist design. It’s transparent enough to not visually clutter the space, strong enough to hold multiple controllers, and sleek enough to look like it belongs in a modern home.
It wasn’t just about aesthetics, though. We needed something that would give every controller a home and be so easy to use that we would actually use it.

How To Make An Acrylic Game Controller Stand
Step 1
Design the Games Controller Stand
We created our vector design using Illustrator and designed the details so the video game controller holder would be sturdy and easily slot together.

The stand is personalised and holds two game controllers—one at the front and one at the back, and there’s space to store your headphones, too. We also added an LED base for fun lighting effects.
The game controller display stand is designed to accommodate different controllers. We tested it with PlayStation 3, PS4, and even PS5 controllers, and they all held nicely in the DIY controller holder. There’s also space to store your headphones.
We created two different designs. One has a PlayStation 3 controller, and one has an image of a PlayStation 5 controller. You can get the templates we used here.
Step 2
Cut The Design
If you’ve never used a laser cutter, prepare to be amazed. Watching a design transform from a digital file to a physical object is always exciting.
Place the acrylic in the laser cutter, adjust the settings to your material, and press the start button. We almost always use the recommended settings, but it’s worth cutting a small test grid to see what settings work best with your material and machine.

The main part of the stand with the engraved headphones and game controller image is made of 3mm thick acrylic, and the feet are made of 5mm thick acrylic.
These are the settings we used:
For engraving the acrylic, use 22% Power, 500 mm/s Speed, 1 Pass, and 200 lines per cm.For cutting the 3mm acrylic: 100% Power, 20mm/s Speed, 2 PassesFor cutting the 5mm acrylic: 100% Power, 20mm/s Speed, 3 Passes
Our xTool P2 made the process of cutting through the acrylic so easy.

Engraving always takes a while, even with a powerful laser like the one we have. However, the project was still really quick to complete. From start to finish, it only took about an hour to engrave and cut.
Step 3
Assemble The Game Acrylic Controller Stand
Assembling the stand is like solving a very easy 3D puzzle.
To make the personalised game controller holder, you simply need to slot the pieces together and place them in the LED light stand.

It only takes seconds to assemble, and you don’t need glue to attach the pieces, although you could add some acrylic cement to secure the pieces to each other more permanently.
And that’s all there is to it! You’ve got a professional-looking stand that looks like it came from a high-end gaming store.

These acrylic stands are game-changers (pun totally intended). Instead of having controllers scattered everywhere, we now have them neatly stored in our video game controller holder.
The best part? Each stand takes less than an hour to create and costs a fraction of what you’d pay for a store-bought organiser.
Whether for your gaming-obsessed friend, your brother-in-law who’s always hunting for lost controllers, or your own living room, this DIY project is a total win. I love how this controller stand turned out so much that I even made one as a Christmas present for my nephew. Fingers crossed, he loves it as much as I do!
